Lee Childers Joins CIHS Board

The Captiva Island Historical Society welcomes Captiva resident Lee Childers to the Board of Directors.

Lee has always been fascinated with history - how people lived, ate, dressed and supported themselves before modernization.  He is especially curious about the early Childers.jpgresidents of Captiva who dealt with the swarms of mosquitos, how they dealt with the heat before air conditioning.  He wonders how Captiva morphed from a small agricultural community into the prized warm weather destination it is today for living or vacationing.

Lee, and his wife Wendy, and their two adult children and grandson spend a portion of the year at the Jersey Shore on the barrier island community of Normandy Beach.

It was there in 1980 that he founded his real estate business. Childers Sotheby’s International Realty specializes in seashore properties, not unlike Captiva and Sanibel.
